The
Benefits of Posting Your Resume on Job Sites
by Jeff Guthrie
|
In this modern day age
of technology, high-speed internet and electronic everything, one of the
best ways to passively and actively search for a job is to post your
resume on a job board. Posting your resume on job boards is kind of like
paying for an ad in a national newspaper that is strictly for posting jobs
and finding good candidates.
When a hiring manager or recruiter has a new position that needs to be
filled, they almost always go to job boards and view the available resumes
in the hopes of finding the perfect candidate.
So, how can you take
advantage of posting your resume on job sites? The first thing you need to
do is ensure that your resume resounds with excellent information and
promotes you as a great potential employee. If your resume is bland and
blasé, your chances of attracting a recruiter with it are slim.

The nice thing about
posting your resume versus applying for a job posting is that the
recruiter or hiring manager is looking for you instead of wading through
hundreds of applicant resumes. So, if your resume comes up as a possible
match for their search, you have a lot better chance that they will read
it.
Your next consideration
should be what job sites you should post your resume to. If you are in a
specific industry like accounting, then you should post to the major job
boards like Monster, CareerBuilder and HotJobs but then you should find
industry-specific job boards and post there as well.
You should also manage
and maintain your resume on job sites. If you are not getting any activity
from your resume posting, take a look at your resume and revamp it some.
Ask yourself, does my resume snap? Would I be interested in further
investigating this person if I pulled the resume up? If not, then you have
some work to do.

Another nice thing
about posting your resume on a job board is that you can go back and edit
it at any time. So, if you are not getting any hits on your resume, change
it.
Lastly, you should also
maintain your resume on job boards after you get a job. You never know
when a great position might open up that you have always wanted. If you
have the requisite skills and an awesome resume posted on various job
boards, you will most likely be contacted for the position.
While
posting your resume on job boards can often times secure you a job,
don’t depend on it solely. Pursue other methods to ensure you are doing
everything possible to get a job. However, even when you are working, keep
your resume updated and posted out on major job boards just so you don’t
miss the opportunity of a lifetime.
